Late-Night Options Near Dubai Airport & the Cruise Terminal
Dubai is one of the world’s great transit cities. Every night, thousands of travellers are in town for a single evening — on a long stopover at DXB, staying at an airport hotel before an early flight, or docked at Port Rashid for one night of a cruise. If that is you, the question is simple: where can you go out without spending half the night in traffic?
The answer is old Dubai. Bur Dubai sits between the airport and the cruise terminal, and Underground Club, a Russian-style nightclub in the Grand Excelsior Hotel, Al Mankhool, is one of the closest late-night options to both.
How close is it?
- Dubai International Airport (DXB): about 5–6 km in a straight line, usually 15–20 minutes by taxi at night.
- Garhoud airport hotels: about 5 km, around 15 minutes.
- Port Rashid / Dubai Cruise Terminal: about 2 km, around 5–10 minutes.
- Dubai World Trade Centre hotels: about 3 km, around 10 minutes.
By comparison, Dubai Marina and the Palm are 22–25 km from the club and further still from the airport. On a short visit, staying central saves a lot of time.
Stopover or cruise call? Timing your night
On a stopover
Whether you can leave the airport depends on your passport, visa rules and connection time, so check with your airline and UAE immigration rules before planning anything. If you can leave, allow plenty of buffer. A safe rule is to be back at the airport at least three hours before an international departure, and to factor in time to collect luggage and pass through security.
Staying at an airport hotel
If you have checked into a hotel in Garhoud or Deira before a morning flight, you have the most flexibility. Have dinner, take a 15-minute taxi to Al Mankhool, enjoy the live show and be back in good time for some rest.
On a cruise call
Check your ship’s all-aboard time first — that is non-negotiable. Port Rashid is only a few minutes from Bur Dubai, so even a short evening works. Keep your cruise card and passport or ID copy as required by your cruise line, and plan to be back with time to spare.
What to expect at Underground Club
For a one-night visit, you want a venue that delivers a full experience quickly. Underground Club has:
- Live singers performing Russian, Arabic and international hits.
- Dance shows with gogo dancers and a belly dancer.
- DJs playing house, commercial and Russian-language hits until late.
- Shisha served at tables.
- Food and cocktails — Russian favourites with Arabian flavours; see our menu.
Read more about the shows on our live singers and dance shows page, or about the venue on our nightclub in Bur Dubai page.
Where to eat late nearby
Bur Dubai and Karama have late-opening restaurants serving Indian, Pakistani, Arabic and international food, many within five minutes of the club. Or skip the extra stop and order food at your table.
A sample one-night plan
Here is how a short evening can look if you are staying at an airport hotel or docked at Port Rashid:
- 8:00 PM: Freshen up at your hotel or cabin and change into smart-casual clothes.
- 8:30 PM: Taxi to Bur Dubai for dinner in Karama or Meena Bazaar.
- 10:00 PM: Five minutes on to Al Mankhool and into Underground Club. Take your table and order a shisha.
- 10:30 PM – midnight: Live singers and dance shows from the stage.
- Midnight onwards: The DJ takes over the dance floor. Leave when your schedule needs you to — the airport and port are close.
If your schedule is tight, skip dinner out and eat at the club. You will save at least an hour.
Why old Dubai suits a short visit
Newer districts such as Downtown, the Marina and the Palm are spectacular, but they are spread out and further from both the airport and Port Rashid. Bur Dubai packs restaurants, souks, the Creek and nightlife into a small, central area. For a traveller with one evening, that means less time in a taxi and more time enjoying the city. It is also generally better value, which matters when your stay is short.
Getting there and back
- Taxi or ride-hailing is the simplest choice at night. Ask for “Grand Excelsior Hotel, Bur Dubai, Kuwait Street, Al Mankhool” — not the Deira hotel of the same name.
- Metro runs from the airport terminals towards BurJuman, but not all night. Check RTA times before relying on it for the return.
- Book your return taxi before you leave the table, especially when you have a flight or a ship to catch.
Detailed directions are on our directions page.
